Empowering Careers, Elevating Performance

Hey Friends,

As we step into 2025, many of us are feeling that familiar spark to refresh our goals and set intentions for the year ahead. But before you dive into drafting that list of resolutions, I want to share a new way to approach goal-setting—one that aligns with your values, leverages your strengths, and prepares you for the unexpected.

Too often, we create goals reactively, letting corporate objectives or outside pressures shape our personal development. But here’s the truth:

The most meaningful goals don’t just check boxes—they align with who you are and where you’re headed.

In my latest blog post, I share three steps to set goals that truly stick. Today, I’d like to build on that and offer a fresh perspective on how to create a goal-setting process that’s both strategic and sustainable.

1. Set Goals that Pull You Forward, Not Just Push You Ahead

Many of us focus on what’s directly in front of us—the immediate tasks, deadlines, or performance metrics. But the most impactful goals don’t just push you to achieve more; they pull you toward a future that excites and fulfills you.

Fresh Action:

Think about what excites you about your career—not just this year, but in the long run. Write down one goal that feels energizing and forward-looking. For example:

  • "Explore opportunities to integrate AI literacy into my current role and future-proof my career."
  • "Rebuild my network by connecting with three leaders who inspire me."

These types of goals aren’t just about completing tasks—they’re about creating momentum for what’s next.

2. Build Bridges Through Collaboration

Goals don’t live in a vacuum. The best goals are informed by trusted relationships—mentors, peers, and cross-functional leaders who offer valuable insights and feedback.

Fresh Action:

Identify one person in your network who can help you validate or refine your goals. This could be a mentor, a colleague in a different department, or even someone outside your organization. Reach out to them for a conversation about their perspective on industry trends or growth opportunities.

This isn’t just about alignment—it’s about discovering possibilities you might not have considered.

3. Design Goals that Fit Your Life, Not Just Your Work

It’s easy to focus on professional growth while sidelining personal well-being. But true success isn’t sustainable unless it considers your health, relationships, and values.

Fresh Action:

Revisit your goals and ask yourself: “Am I building a life I’m proud of, or just a career?” Make one adjustment to ensure your goals reflect your holistic priorities. For example:

  • Block time for physical activity or family on your calendar, just as you would for meetings.
  • Add a wellness objective to your development plan, like reducing screen time after work or practicing mindfulness.

Looking Ahead

Goal-setting is about more than what you’ll achieve this year—it’s about who you’re becoming. As you set your goals, remember that they should stretch you, excite you, and ultimately align with the future you want to create.

So, let me ask you this: What’s one goal you’re setting for 2025 that feels meaningful and energizing? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments or via reply to this email. Let’s inspire each other to aim higher and design a year filled with purpose and growth.

Warmly,
Nitza
